Yeah, I don't have any real answers. I know that I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with plastic surgery, but I don't really know what other folk's motives are. I have my perceptions of what those motives are, but I may well be wrong.

Would you want plastic surgery?
by free2beme init is said that teens are now getting breast implants, tummy tucks and liposuction.
i remember when i was younger, we thought these type of surgeries were done by older woman wanting to stay young looking.
does not seem to be the case anymore and it is getting easier and easier to get done.

ya, so instead of dying at 75 they die at 73.... come on man, lighten up a little. too much doctrine is sucky for the soul...
I have come off a bit preachy, which wasn't my intent. I do become rather vocal with my opinions at times. :-) I will say this, though, along fhn's statements. How much are those two years going to be worth to you when you become 72? ;-)

You'll have to see what I mean when you get there. It's not shame. It's a wish not to wither away
Which is, ultimately, a wish to not die. However, we will die whether we've been sliced and had bacteria injected in our eyebrows anyway. We all could do a better job of coming to grips with our own impending deaths. We should try to embrace death if we want to find peace.
You might think this is a stretch from this subject, but I think it's not if one probes their motives on a deep level.

nd who they "really are" is somehow inherently better than who they could have been?
Obviously, Tetra, this is a subjective judgment call. I think self-deception is never desirable.

Incidentally, I don't like tanning either. Baking yourself in the sun (leading cause of skin cancer) to achieve a freshly-cooked look is another of my pet peeves.

Shame has nothing to do with it.
Oh really?
You're just 27. Wait until you hit your forties and start seeing how unforgiving your skin is to every sunburn and tan you ever got.

why should anyone be proud of what nature gave them? it wasn't a gift.
A person who embraces who they really are has more to be proud of than someone who buys a body thinking it changes anything important.
Everything we do is a reflection on what we value. Plastic surgery sends a very depressing message about what we value.

Why should we be ashamed of aging? You can spraypaint dying grass, but I wouldn't understand that either.

I do not relate in anyway with wanting to have plastic surgery. It is one of the most disgusting ways to condemn one's self that I can think of--my only exception would be accident victims/maiming etc. I must ask, how can anyone be proud of what they paid some surgeon to sculpt on themselves? How does this have anything to do with the person?
